1st - 3rd: Artist Spotlights

First, meet local Bronx artists, learn about how they like to create art, and try your hand at creating your own. And then, learn how world-famous artists Frida Kahlo and Henri Matisse overcame challenges in their lives to create art, followed by an activity to create your own masterpieces inspired by them.

World Famous Artists

The Artwork of Charles Esperanza

Join author and illustrator Charles George Esperanza as we learn how he explores and celebrates the Bronx in his stories and artwork. Then, BxCM Arts Program Manager Chris Gomez will show us how to create our own drawings inspired by Charles’ work.

Andre Trenier

The Artwork of Andre Trenier

Did you know the Bronx has public art around every corner? Join muralist Andre Trenier as he shows us  some of his favorite pieces throughout the Bronx. Then, BxCM Arts Program Manager Chris Gomez will show us how to create our own portraits inspired by Andre’s work.

Edwin Torres

The Artwork of Edwin J. Torres

A single photo is worth a thousand words. Join Bronx-based photographer Edwin J. Torres as he explains how photography helps him express himself. Then, BxCM Arts Program Manager Chris Gomez will demonstrate how to take your own photographs using a SmartPhone or tablet.

Dream Big: The Artwork of Frida Kahlo

Join Bronx Children’s Museum Program Managers Dejá Santiago and Chris Gomez as they introduce the life and work of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and demonstrate how to create a self-portrait using drawing materials.

Henri Matisse

Dream Big: The Artwork of Henri Matisse

Join Bronx Children’s Museum Program Managers Dejá Santiago and Chris Gomez as they introduce the life and work of the French artist Henri Matisse and demonstrate how to create a self-portrait using collage materials.
